Skin is the single largest organ of the body, is responsible for many aspects of our health and affects our psychological states based on it's appearance. Bad skin will cause pain, compromise health, will create low self esteem and limit a person's confidence in pursuing their dreams. Skin care and esthetics school programs have moved into two distinct groups. The traditional skin care and esthetics as practiced by many of the old schools is based primarily on appearance. The new school of esthetics and skin care is driven by the understanding that the skin is the single largest organ of the body and the health of the skin is the goal, not just the appearance of the skin. This change in the esthetics field is driven by the understanding of how important skin care is to the overall health of the individual. There is a third paradigm emerging which is unique within the industry which incorporates the concepts of touch and energy as an integral part of the healing process. The concept is being pioneered by a company called PRI Educational Development Company founded and owned by Nancy Risley, RPP, CPE. Nancy Risley's background as a massage, polarity and spa professional as well as educator and author has given her a unique insight into the importance of the interface between the skin and the energy field. Thought, consciousness, intention and touch intersect to create a more profound experience and result than a mechanical unconscious approach to doing the work. She has named this approach HumanHaptics®. As it is there are very few schools in the world that focus on the health of the skin. This revolution is being driven by the product companies. Unfortunately, many traditional esthetics schools focus on training students to sell the products that are produced by the school, products that often were developed 10, 20 or even 30 years before that don't incorporate the new technologies. The esthetics industry does have extensive private labeling, making it affordable for schools to offer their own skin care products. The key is this, does the school only teach the products sold by the school or do they also teach the student about products from other companies as well. Any quality school that is truly focused on the students being a successful esthetician will make sure that the student has extensive product sales training. Product sales represents. As this field continues to grow with more spas servicing more clients, the demand for good skin care professionals will grow. The esthetics schools will grow accordingly. As with anything that is in demand, opportunity breeds the probability of opportunistic or predatory businesses taking advantage of easy money. Snake oil salesman and providers are always a step away from booming industries. It is up to the consumer to stay informed and make wise decisions. This will apply to the choice of products used, esthetics spas and skin care clinics or clinicians patronized and schools chosen to enter the field of skin care and esthetics.
